Do What You Love

I live in the Twin Cities where I attend a competitive college, and for the past couple weeks I've been struggling with the daunting task of finding an internship for the summer. After weeks and weeks of searching, it got to be March and I have ONE interview set up before the end of the semester (more to come on that next week!)

That being said, the interview is next week, so I've had a lot of time to stress and worry about all the little things that could go wrong:
--What happens if I don't get the internship?
--Everyone else gets internships their Junior year.
--Will I still be able to get a steady job after graduation?
--What if I have to move back in with my parents?
--What if I end up living there the rest of my life?
(*not that there's anything wrong with all of that. It's just not where I see myself in 5 years*)

Anyway. Here's the bottom line:

And the rest will follow.

Thanks to this image (and Pinterest for access to these images) I forced myself to stop worrying about internships and decided to focus on the things I love: dance, yoga, and my friends.

Because in the end...

So yes. I mean to tell you that the less you worry the more confident you are. The more confident you are, the more you put yourself in what could be considered uncomfortable situations--asking that guy (or girl) out for drinks, or making a new friend at a coffee shop, or simply making more time for yourself. Here's how that went for me.

Although I may not have a secured internship at this point, here's what has happened over the past month and a half:
-It was recently announced an that I am an assistant coach for a local high school dance team
-I am able to focus more heavily on my coursework
-I will be traveling to Italy to study abroad for a month (many more posts to come on that)
-Upon my return from Italy, I will be traveling the US teaching and choreographing dance with an independent choreographer and good friend of mine.
(and getting paid to do it! Score!)

If that's not success, I don't know what is. I'm doing what I love to do: dancing, making time for myself on my yoga mat each day, and surrounding myself with the best people I know...and I'm without a doubt happier now than when I hovered over my planner stressed about all the things I can and can't control.

It's very easy for us to focus on the one bad thing that isn't going the way we planned and ignore the great things that are happening around us. This is definitely one of those "stop and smell the roses" type of situations.

We are given so much in this life, and we have so much to be thankful for. Take a deep breath today and no matter how hard it is, just stop worrying...even if you have to force yourself to do so. Let yourself find peace among the chaos and be thankful for the little things in life :)
